The Super Mario Bros video game series is one of the most iconic and beloved gaming franchises of all time. The series was introduced in 1981 with the arcade game Donkey Kong, where the character Mario (originally named Jumpman) made his debut. In 1983, Mario and his brother Luigi were featured in their own game, Mario Bros. However, it was the release of Super Mario Bros in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) that truly cemented the Mario character as an iconic figure in pop culture. The game was a side-scrolling platformer where players controlled Mario as he made his way through various levels, battling enemies and bosses, collecting power-ups, and ultimately rescuing Princess Toadstool (later known as Princess Peach) from the evil Bowser. The success of Super Mario Bros led to numerous sequels and spin-offs. The series has been praised for its innovative gameplay, creative level design, memorable characters, and catchy music.
